The Sonoma County Water Agency, which owns two buildings in the Airport Business Park in Santa Rosa, California, chose geothermal to reduce energy use in these buildings.

The 404 Aviation Blvd. project is a geothermal heat pump retrofit of the existing HVAC system at the headquarters building for SCWA. The existing system is a combination of large rooftop AC, VAV with hot water reheat and smaller packaged rooftop gas-electric units.

The 1315 Airport Blvd. project is a geothermal heat pump retrofit of the existing HVAC system at the operations & maintenance engineering building for SCWA. The existing system consists of various sizes of packaged rooftop gas-electric units.

Project design features

  • 100% geothermal heating & cooling.

  • Removed all natural gas use from the site (reduced carbon footprint).

  • Used existing VAV supply duct for OSA air duct to all 47 heat pumps at 404 Aviation Blvd.

  • Used existing duct distribution system wherever possible to reduce costs.

  • Specified building control systems for managing and monitoring building system performance.
